Be the reason someone smiles today

Such an amazing day we had.

December 2024

The show last Sunday was so much fun. It was great chatting to people and see that so many people like different things. And I remember, that is why art is so much fun!

See below some photos of the morning and … in a few days time … my paintings complete (no more sneak peaks). Soon, they will also be online for sale… watch this space :).

Thanks again to the people who stopped by at the concert and for all your support there or not there.

Scared and excited…

December 2024

So exciting… next week Sunday I will have, for the first time, my art displayed in the same room I will be in.

I have had art works hang in galleries, but I was never there at the same time as other people, so I can say…I am a bit nervous.

My talented friend Kat Choi will perform an amazing show in the Mosman Art Gallery, and for every piece she will be playing on the piano, I have created a painting, as how I interpreted the music.

Interested in checking it out? I am too ;)

How is it going, you ask?

September 2024

I have done many more layers after my post in August and didn’t want you to miss out on the final product AND the stages it took to get there.

I have added them to the post from August, so you can see the entire process from A to Z+.

And she is done ‘I see Summer in your eyes’ … soon also available online as well as mini versions of this one.

Thanks for following me on my journey, I am very thankful.

Follow me on my new journey

August 2024

With my previous artwork I loved to see the progress I make every time I added a layer, a mark or a new colour onto the canvas. Sometimes I liked it better, and sometimes I really had to get through the ugly stage to get to the next one.

It changes the feeling every time.

As I am working on a new artwork, follow me on my journey and follow step by step what my layers look like and what new feeling they give with every stroke.

Hope you enjoy the process.

xx Kim

Tadaaaa….

August 2024

When you read my June post I was finishing up my big canvas…and I finished it.

It is called ‘Be your own field of flowers’.

I love how it turned out, I am so happy with it. If you want to check it out and order it as original or a print, check it out here.

Below the first photo of how it started to the final finished work.

I hope you love it as much as I do.

How it started

How it ended

Working on…

June 2024

I am working on this big canvas and thought I should show you some of the progress shots so far.

Every time I add a new layer, I decide on new colors and really … I just go with the flow and do what feels right at that moment.

This is a big canvas and I love to be able to make big brushstrokes and to know that if I make a mistake, it is okay since I can cover it up, it really makes me work in the flow even more. Loving the freedom layering paint gives me.

There is no right and there is no wrong. I only do what feels good.

May was for good causes

June 2024

It is like you breath once, and a whole month has passed. How crazy fast is this year going.

In May I entered two Art Prizes for good causes.

I did the Incognito Art Show (the profits they make is going towards funding programs that support artists working with disabilities) and the Strokes4Stroke art prize (for the Stroke Foundation).

I love the idea that you can send in your art work and they auction it off or sell it and all the money they made is going to a good organisation.

Cannot wait to find more of these organisations who do Art Prizes, so you can also help in this way to support a cause. If I do, I will share them with you.

February and March challenges

April 2024

I blinked and March was gone… how fast did that go?

I have been trying to be doing something with painting/drawing every day in both February and March.

In February I drew everyday and in March I painted (part of) a flower/tree every day.

See below the results.

This month, I will be doing mark makings every day. Getting so many ideas from just walking outside.

Have you been busy art-ing lately?

Painting MOJO

February 2024

Totally getting back into my ‘paint-mojo’ again…and loving it.

See here two canvasses I am working on… more layers to come, but not too sure what yet, so I will put them aside until I know.

“Feeling excited about today”

February 2024

Another painting that has been patiently waiting for me to add some more brushstrokes and markings was my lovely sunflowers in vase.

“Feeling excited about today” is finished (18”x 24”).

It still needs a satin or glossy varnish but will do this when it is entirely dry.

I love the marks in the painting and that the outside of the canvas is yellow. So, no need for a frame if you don’t want to add one.

The ‘start’ of something “old”

February 2024

Remember this one?

I started this in March last year (if you scroll down to my post of October 2023 you can see all the different ‘looks’ it has had over the (almost a) year.

For months I haven’t touched it and it has been patiently waiting on my easel. And yesterday was the day…it got another layer.

I am really happy where it is going now, but still missing a colour.

I think yellow? Or maybe lavender?

Decided to let it stand for a bit and see what pops up :).

As always, you will see the next step when ready.

My year of Art and Selfcare

January 2024

Is it me…or has the first month of the new year flown by so quickly already?

For 2024 I have set myself a new ‘motto/goal’… 2024 is going to be my year of Art & Selfcare.

To get back into my art practices more often (which I have been neglecting a bit the last months), I needed to get myself sorted and back in routine again. Every day, since the 1st of January I have been walking a minimum of 10,000 steps or minimum 5 kilometres every day.

And… I love it.

Being in nature every day just brings so much more clarity, freedom and happiness.

My head is getting clearer, and I feel more organised and ready to tackle the world.

From the 1st of February I will continue to do my walks every day, but I will add a mini art practice every day. These last few days of January I will decide what the practice will be. Either I will bring a notebook on my walks, or maybe take a photo while walking and paint/draw this when I am home… I am not sure yet, but will keep you posted for sure.

If you want to see my daily updates, definitely check out my Instagram page where I post every day to keep accountable.

Are your writing your Christmas cards?

December 2023

I am one of those old-fashioned people who loves to write Christmas cards. It is just something I have always loved doing. When I was a young teenager, I had about 30+ pen pals all over the world and loved writing them. Even on holidays I brought my nice writing paper and pens.

This year I printed Christmas cards of one of my own paintings to send out.

Do you still write your Christmas cards?

Waiting for the colour pop

November 2023

I love colour, and often I want to start painting in colour straight away. But I know that sometimes I have to be patient and to create a better painting, I need to take time and focus on the background first.

I am now working on my greyscale with sunflowers. First few layers of grey are done, and soon it will be time to start working on my sunflower-yellows.

Cannot wait.

xx Kim

What is on my easel right now?

November 2023

Sometimes when you feel you are in ‘the flow’ or in ‘the zone’ you just got to keep on going.

This was me yesterday evening. I prepped the base layers for a 3-piece project I have in my mind, but I also prepped my colours for my grey~value scale project too.

I cannot wait to make time to start my new projects. Already so excited.

Yayyy…. 3…2…1 and live we go.

October 2023

I am so excited to finally have my website online, and here you are…checking it out.

How are you doing?

I know everything needs time and even though it is not perfect, I decided to go live anyway. I can only learn and get better while using it, right? I am also in the process of uploading better photos of all artworks, so keep an eye out.

While the website is already live, I am also busy with a photographer to have all my artworks digitalised and art prints should be coming soon. Test prints are already being done as I speak. I am aiming for mid-November, so … watch this space!

Thanks again for being here and following me on my art journey.

Do you want to know who I am … check it out here!

Have an awesome day today.

xx Kim

What is on my easel right now?

October 2023

I am working on this huge canvas (91 x 122 cm) with acrylic paint. It started as a ‘go with the flow’ artwork. I started it in March, which seems now so long ago. Now and then I add something and then I leave it again. Sometimes I turn the canvas around and see if it “works” better.

When I think it looks horrible, I just leave it for a few days and see if I get attached to it, and if not, a new layer will be put over it (as you can see below I have had quite a few layers already).

One day I will ‘finish’ it… or will I ?

Maybe this is one of those, will never be finished pieces.

Will keep you posted.

Love to hear what you think or what your experience is with artwork you are working on but not sure what to do next and how do you know when you are finished? Send me a message

xx Kim

Incognito Art Show

October 2023

In May of this year, I entered the Incognito Art Show. For this show every artist can enter up to 3 artworks (you will be sent three A5 pieces of paper on which you work), and all the profits raised of all the artworks will go towards funding programs at Studio A and Little Orange. These are both arts companies that provide professional development for artists with disabilities.

I am very thankful to the beautiful people who have purchased my works and were able this way to support this great cause.

I had so much fun creating these works, and some similar ones are definitely coming soon.
